Fedora 11 Leonidas

Fedora 11, codenamed Leonidas, was released on June 9, 2009.This is the first release whose artwork is determined by the name instead of by users voting on themes. This was done in an effort to make the art in Fedora better.
Some of the features in Fedora 11 are:

  • ext4 as the default file system
  • experimental BTRFS activated by IcantbelieveitsnotBTR command line option at bootup[54]
  • Faster Bootup aimed at 20 seconds.
  • GCC 4.4
  • GNOME 2.26.1
  • KDE 4.2.2
  • 2.6.29.4 Linux kernel
  • Eclipse 3.4.2
One of Fedora's main objectives is not only to contain software distributed under a free software / open source license, but also to be on the leading edge of such technologies.Fedora developers prefer to make upstream changes instead of applying fixes specifically for Fedora—this ensures that updates are available to all Linux distributions.
